Configuring Database Explorer
Database Explorer is a tool that offers many features to developers and end-users when it is configured correctly. Many options are configurable and stored for later use. Some of the configuration options take effect immediately, indicated by an active apply button in the configuration panel. When you install Database Explorer without any configuration, the safest data options are set by default. New options introduced with a new version of Database Explorer typically default to OFF, requiring explicit configuration.
When dbAdminMode is not set to End User Mode, you cannot open the configuration dialog. This setting is usually for end-users, ensuring that the safest default options are applied.
The configuration dialog is divided into six main tab pages:
Buttons
- OK button: Applies all changed settings that take effect immediately, stores the settings, and closes the dialog.
- Apply button: Applies all changed settings that take effect immediately, stores the settings, but keeps the dialog open.
- Close button: Closes the dialog without applying or saving any settings.
- Restore defaults: Resets all options back to their factory setting defaults. All previous settings will be removed, and the defaults will be saved; the dialog remains open.
- Import: Checks for preference settings from older DataFlex versions and creates a list of those. The user can select a version from that list, and those settings will be duplicated in the current version configuration.
