Macro Recording
You can create up to ten keyboard macros in the editor. You assign each macro to a keyboard shortcut, which will be remembered the next time you start the Studio.
Recording a Macro
To start recording a macro, press the Record Macro keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + R) or click the record macro toolbar button. A "Recording" button will be displayed in the upper right corner of the editor.
Any keyboard operations you now perform in the editor will be recorded into the macro. To finish recording the macro, click the "Recording" button.
Saving a Macro
When you stop recording the macro, a dialog will be displayed asking you to assign a key to the macro:
Press New Shortcut Key
In the "Press new shortcut key" dialog, press the key combination you want to associate with the macro. You can use up to two keys. For example, you could press Ctrl + A and then T. In the editor, you would then need to press Ctrl + A followed by T to replay the macro. This could be a useful technique if you wanted to apply all your macros to a single "leading" key followed by another identifier.
Save As
The Save As window will let you select a macro number to use. Up to ten macros can be saved. Typically, when creating new macros, you just let the dialog automatically select the first free number. However, if you wanted to add an extra key combination to an existing macro, you could select the macro number from the list.
Note that in this case, the previous key combination will still be available and will perform the keystrokes of the last combination recorded. For example, if your keystrokes were to delete 10 characters and you saved that macro assigning Ctrl + Z, D to macro 1, and then you recorded deleting 20 characters and saved that as Ctrl + Alt + Z, D to the same macro 1, both key combinations (Ctrl + Z, D and Ctrl + Alt + Z, D) will delete 20 characters - the last recorded keystrokes to macro 1.
To save the macro, press the OK button. The next time you start the Studio, your macros and keys will be available for use.
Macros Currently Saved
To check what macros you recorded and currently have available in your editor, you can:
- Drop down the list in the Save As window when recording a new macro.
- Use the Configure Editor dialog (see Note below), Keyboard tab page, and look for "PlayMacro" under Command. The number in the range from 1 through 10 will be the number you selected when saving the macro. All recorded macros will be saved to PlayMacro, and the associated key combinations will be displayed in Key Assignments.
Note: To get to the Editor Properties: In the Editor, right-click and select Properties from the floating menu.
Removing Saved Macros
You need to use the Configure Editor dialog to remove saved macros.
- From the Configure Editor dialog, select the Keyboard tab page.
- Look for "PlayMacro" under Command, where the range is from 1 through 10.
All the recorded macros, identified by PlayMacro, will be listed under Command - i.e., you will find PlayMacro1, PlayMacro2,…, PlayMacro10.
The key combinations for each PlayMacro will be displayed in Key Assignments. To remove one of the key combinations, just highlight it and press the Remove button.
The Reset button will reset the default value of all the keys listed. Since the PlayMacros by default have no keys assigned to them, the Reset button will clear all recorded macros.
